ESE Capsule Stands for “Easy Serving Espresso” and the standard defines the requirements for ESE coffee capsules: 7.5 grams of coffee, a proper grind, a specific shape and diameter that allow their use exclusively in ESE-certified machines. The coffee capsules encase the coffee between two sealed layers of filter paper and have fixed diameter and height.

ESE machines operate similarly to ground coffee machines. However, they offer considerable advantages: no spilled grounds, no waste, and consistent freshness.

Coffee absorbs oxygen from the air and therefore must always be kept as airtight as possible. To ensure this, ESE coffee capsules are packaged in aluminum foil—also recyclable—and during the packaging process, the foil bags are flushed with nitrogen for maximum freshness. The coffee capsules themselves are compostable, making the entire package eco-friendly.
